Maximum of 200 places at Junior Club from Thursday 30 June

From Thursday 30 June there will be a maximum of 200 young people into Junior Club. For further information please see the letter below from Sue Pennycook, Chief Executive, which will be both posted and handed out to all Junior Club members.

Dear Junior Club Parent/Guardian

Maximum of 200 places in Junior Club from Thursday 30 June & invite to Parent’s Forum on Saturday 2 July

We are the first and only youth zone in Cumbria that is this size and so we have been monitoring the Junior Club very closely over the first two weeks, particularly watching how young people behave in the space, and how they want to access activities.  As you may be aware from how busy the sessions are getting, the Junior Club at Carlisle Youth Zone has received an unprecedented number of memberships.  By Tuesday this week (that is the 5th ever Junior Club session) we had 591 members already which we are really pleased about, however this also presents us with a challenge of how to ensure the very best experience for the young people who attend this club.

I am sure you can appreciate that safety and quality of provision is paramount in all that we do at Carlisle Youth Zone, and for this reason, having monitored the sessions and watched memberships continue to climb, we are limiting the Junior Club sessions to 200 per night with effect from Thursday 30 June.

To address these issues as promptly as possible we will be holding a “Parent’s Forum” this Saturday, 2 July, from 1:30pm to 2:30pm.  This is to work together with you on the maximum numbers, but also on ideas around moving towards a system where we have 200 Monday members, 200 Thursday members, and 200 Saturday members so that we can ensure access to as many young people as possible to have access to Carlisle Youth Zone.  If you would like to discuss these matters but cannot attend the forum, we will also be happy to arrange an appointment where you can come and discuss your thoughts.

We appreciate all your support; we have taken this step to ensure the quality of services provided and safety of all our members.

Yours sincerely

Sue Pennycook

Chief Executive
