Become a Mentor

Become a Mentor

The Carlisle Youth Zone mentoring programme is funded by The Police and Crime Commissioner’s Innovation Fund.

Our objectives are to offer, support, guidance and understanding to young people who are most at risk from the effects of poverty, becoming involved with criminal activity, experiencing challenging family circumstances and/or emotional, behavioural or social difficulties. We provide a positive supportive relationship by matching a trained mentor to the young people who are referred to us. We want to help shape the lives of young people with support of our fantastic volunteer mentors and help them to achieve their potential.

At the heart of our Mentoring Programme lies the ethos that the majority of mentors are volunteers. Young people, will ultimately value that mentors are present and spending significant amounts of time with them out of choice and not because they are paid to be, unlike some of the other adults within their lives.

We ask volunteers for a commitment of 2 hours per week for 12 months. This 2 hours includes a 1hour (or less) session with a young person, travel time and any contact/paperwork with the mentoring coordinator. Once an enquiry is received a mentoring coordinator will contact you with further details and to arrange a meeting. We provide all volunteer mentors with on-going support and training.

Mentors from all walks of life are welcomed onto the program. If you would like to support a young person on a one to one basis to help shape their future please fill in the form below.

Become a mentor

  • Are you are able to make a 2 hour commitment for 12 months?
  • Are you willing to befriend and support a young person to shape their future?
  • Are you reliable and motivated?
  • Are you ready for a new challenge?

If you answered yes then you could have what it takes to become a mentor and make a difference to a young person’s life. Mentors are invaluable and we are committed to provide on-going support, training and development opportunities.
