Thank you for your interest in the Cumbria Youth Co-research Collective (CYCC)!
We are a team of people who share an interest in how research can be more genuinely inclusive of different backgrounds, ideas and priorities. We think this is important because research happens every day but doesn’t always properly include the people it is about or is seeking to help. This is especially true when research is focused on young people but through the Cumbria Youth Co-research Collective, we are showing there is a different way to do things which is more inclusive. And we think it makes for better research!
We say co-research because its about coming together across different identities, backgrounds and experiences. This includes people in different age groupings for example:
- Youth Co-researcher – these are young people aged 12 – 17yrs
- Peer Youth Co-researcher – these are young adults aged 18 – 24yrs)
- Community Co-researcher – these are adults (18yrs+) who have a job in an organisation (like a Council, youth organisation, school, charity etc) and who also support and take part in co-research
- Academic Co-researcher – these are adults (18yrs+) who work at a university
Cumbria Youth Co-research Collective have already taken part in a range of research work and projects. You can read about one of the more recent ones here.
Excitingly, we have just had our next research project confirmed! The project will work right across the Cumberland area over the next 6 months to better understand what support and opportunities young people (11yrs upwards) want access to outside of school time.
