#TeenCYZ – marking 13 years of fun, friendship and opportunity

On 20 July, we will celebrate the 13th anniversary of this groundbreaking facility opening in Carlisle. Over this time 15,000 young people have come through our doors.

What do young people say they need?:

RELIABILE – CYP need to know that facilities and support are available regularly and reliably. We are open 6 days a week, 52 weeks a year. Meaning that our 3,000 members (20% of the city’s young people aged 7-25 years) have somewhere to go and something to do.

CONSISTENT – CYP need to know that they will be challenged, supported and engaged in a way that is accessible and appealing to their interests. For 13 years, we have offered fun activities including sports, arts, gaming and cooking alongside targeted projects that helps young people navigate the world in which they are growing up and give them a platform to be heard.

SAFE – CYP need to know that they are in a safe environment, that they can confide in trusted adults that can support them and that their problems will be taken seriously. Alongside our activity programme, our youth workers support young people facing challenging, confusing or dangerous situations.

DEPENDABLE – CYP need to know that they can depend upon the adults that have committed to supporting them, that they are known as an individual and are surrounded by adults who want them to be the best version of themselves. We operate a no child missed policy meaning that we strive to know every young person by name, ensure that they have an adult to talk to, that we help them identify skills gaps, support them to cope with life’s challenges and help them to fulfil their potential. Every young person who comes through our doors is treated as an individual.

We operate a no child missed policy meaning that we strive to know every young person by name, ensure that they have an adult to talk to, that we help them identify skills gaps, support them to cope with life’s challenges and help them to fulfil their potential. Every young person who comes through our doors is treated as an individual.

In order to empower them to take control of their childhood and journey to being an adult, young people ask for and need reliability, consistency, safety and dependability. We can only provide this because of the reliable, consistent, safe and dependable support of our Patrons and Donors.

Every member pays £5 a year to join CYZ (although we do sometimes waive this fee). This makes sure that access is affordable for everyone. Each young person who joins is an individual. They have potential and challenges, they need support, guidance and a cheerleader. We know every young person’s name.

However, £5 is a fraction of the cost of providing the support and facilities asked for and needed by CYPs. Carlisle Youth Zone is a registered charity (number 1134974), and relies almost entirely on the generosity of businesses, grant making trust and individuals to fund the work that CYPs say they need.

To help celebrate our 13th Birthday, we want to raise £13,000 to support the cost of keeping the CYZ doors open 6 days a week, 52 weeks a year.

What could my gift be supporting the cost of?

A business joining as a Silver Patron could be supporting the salary of a Youth Worker, providing specialist support and guidance to young people.

A business joining as a Bronze Patron could be supporting the cost of delivering our arts programme, inspiring our members to explore their creativity.

A gift of £13 could support the cost of providing hot and nutritious meals for the heavily subsidised price of £1 to our members.

Taking part in the Cross Bay Walk could help us to maintain our gym equipment, ensuring young people have access to quality health and well being equipment.
